Rieger Memorial Library in Haskell Seeks Donations for Renovation, Updates

Rieger Memorial Library is more than a building that houses books. It’s an essential resource in Haskell, Oklahoma, that saves people money, improves digital equity, offers lifelong learning, and expands quality of life. It’s a hub where patrons access technology, apply for jobs, complete school assignments, hold community meetings, and attend programs on everything from arts and crafts to special interests.

Constructed in 1984, the library has undergone no updates. Its aging infrastructure has resulted in external and internal building damage and an inability to provide 21st-century services. We are working to raise money to make crucial improvements to ensure Muskogee County residents can access the information, materials, technology, and community space they need.

This fall, the library has some exciting fundraising events planned, including:

— Fall Festival (5 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday): Join Rieger Memorial Library in celebrating their 40th anniversary with a fall festival. There will be temporary body art, carnival games, sweet treats, and more. We will be selling five activity tickets for $1. The library will be open from 3-8 p.m. (as opposed to the usual 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) time to accommodate the event.

— Rummage Sale (9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5): Complete your Christmas gift-shopping early with Rieger Memorial Library’s rummage sale. There will be office furniture, games, books, and more in the sale. Prices vary.

— Chili cook-off (4 p.m.-8 p.m. Dec. 7): Have a bowl of chili before the Haskell Christmas parade. Bowls are $5 each. If you’d like to enter your chili for a chance to win some prizes, please call Rieger Memorial Library at (918) 482-3614.

We are grateful for the support we have received so far. The City of Haskell is providing funds and dedicating its maintenance team to assist with internal and external repairs and remediation. The Haskell Friends of the Library have pledged to secure in-kind donations for lawn beautification improvements. The EOLS Board of Trustees has earmarked funds for interior repairs and improvements, and we are local businesses to assist, as well. We have also applied for a T-Mobile Hometown Grant to help us reach our $114,105.83 goal.
