Located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the Five Civilized Tribes Museum is housed in the historic Union Indian Agency Building located on “the hill” above Muskogee’s Honor Heights Park and next door to the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center.
The museum is home to works of art, artifacts, documents, books, correspondence, and other materials related to the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole). Through an agreement with Eastern Oklahoma Library System, many of the historical documents, books, and correspondence are listed in the library system’s catalog Although most cannot be accessed at any of the system’s libraries, these items can all be viewed at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum. A select few are available at one of the system’s 15 branches, as well.
In the library catalog, these items are designated as being at shelf location “5 tribes.”
Please contact the Five Civilized Tribes Museum at least 72 hours in advance at 918-683-1701 to inquire and/or make arrangements to view these holdings during museum hours.
