03 Jan Join Tahlequah Library’s Third Thursday Book Club for “Oklahoma Private Investigations”
I have been a reader ever since I can remember and I’ve always believed in the power of literature to bring people together. That’s why I’m really excited to share that the Tahlequah Public Library along with the Third Thursday Book Club has received a grant from Oklahoma Humanities to host a discussion series called Oklahoma Private Investigations.
If you’re a lover of mysteries, then this is definitely for you! Beginning in January 2025, we’ll dive into five fascinating crime and mystery novels, each set right here in Oklahoma. These books aren’t just page-turners—they provide a fun and interesting look at the culture, history, and character of our state.
Here’s the lineup:
— The Old Buzzard Had It Coming by Donis Casey
— Letter from Home by Carolyn Hart
— Capitol Offense by William Bernhardt
— Twisted Perception by Bob Avey
— The American Café by Sara Sue Hoklotubbe
Each book is packed with mystery (of course) and a strong sense of Oklahoma as a place! Whether you’re a seasoned mystery reader or just curious about the genre, I guarantee you’ll find something to love.
But what really makes this program special isn’t just the books—it’s the discussions. Every month, we’ll kick off the meeting with a literary expert who’ll help us unpack the themes, historical context, and even a few interesting facts about the authors. After that, a plot twist! You get to chime in during the discussion session!
We’ll meet on the third Thursday of each month, January through May, and yes, there will be snacks. Because let’s be honest—nothing pairs better with a good mystery than a cup of coffee and a cookie.
This program wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, the McCasland Foundation, and Oklahoma City University, and of course, Oklahoma Humanities. Their mission to bring people together through literature and cultural programs aligns perfectly with what we do at EOLS, Inspire Imagination and Ideas.
So, mark your calendars, dust off your magnifying glass, and get ready to explore Oklahoma through the eyes of some incredible storytellers. Whether you join us for one session or the entire series, I promise it’ll be an adventure worth taking.
If you have questions or want to reserve a spot, give us a call at 918-456-2581 or stop by the library. I can’t wait to see you there and share this journey through Oklahoma’s literary mysteries. Let’s solve some puzzles together!
