06 Jun Plan Your Summer With Fort Gibson, Hulbert Libraries and the Summer Reading Program
Happy Summer Vacation Season! I hope everyone is gearing up for some fun summer plans. At the library we have been preparing for months now for our 2024 Summer Reading Program, “Adventure Begins at the Library.”
The Summer Reading Program encourages kids to continue to read and grow their literacy skills over the summer months, preventing what teachers call “the summer slide.” But the Summer Reading Program is more than just reading. We have plenty of programs to help make this summer a memorable one for the whole family.
At Q.B. Boydstun Library, we’ve got Nancy’s Paint Palette class for adults with Nancy Edscorn on June 1. Every Monday in June, yoga instructor Keri Combs will be teaching Yoga for Kids. Children’s book illustrator Rich Davis will be coming to present a drawing class for kids on June 3.
We’ve got crafts for teens and adults, our S.T.E.A.M. program for kids, chess club, and two different story times for littles and school age children. OSU Extension Center will be leading a Backyard Poultry workshop and we’ve got a couple of summertime program favorites returning, Extreme Animals and the Tulsa Zoo.
At Hulbert Community Library, on top of Extreme Animals, Tulsa Zoo, and Rich Davis, we also have Donna Kilpatrick coming to teach a line dancing class for all ages every Friday in June. Kristal Smith will be instructing two different yoga classes, one for children and a chair yoga class for adults throughout the summer.
Maria will be continuing her story time for children and Books ‘n Banter Book Club, Aiden is leading a Dungeons and Dragons group and a craft for teens, and Kaitlyn will continue her gardening workshops. OSU Extension Center is also coming to Hulbert to present a class on canning and home food preservation.
So, when planning out your summer, don’t forget all the opportunities the library provides for you and your family to have a full and enjoyable vacation season. Check us out online and make sure to register for any events you are interested in. Let your summer adventure begin at the library!
