Tahlequah Public Library to Screen “Where the Red Fern Grows” During Annual Festival

Tahlequah Public Library is pleased to once again be a part of the annual Red Fern Festival taking place this year on April 26 and 27.

The classic novel Where the Red Fern Grows was written by Wilson Rawls and takes place in the Ozark hills around Tahlequah, Oklahoma. It tells the story of Billy Colman and his adventure to purchase two hunting dogs. The book inspired two film adaptations released in 1974 and 2003 respectively, and both were filmed in and around the Tahlequah area.

The annual festival takes up seven city blocks and features numerous craft opportunities, vendors and food trucks. From petting zoos to live music showcases, the festival has activities for people of all ages. According to most recent attendance figures, an estimated 30,000 + attendees take part in the festival and travel from all over the United States.

Tahlequah Public Library will be hosting showings of the films inspired by the book on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We will also be represented in the vendor area so please drop by and check us out!

We are excited to be a part of this extraordinary event and shine a light on the importance that libraries and life-long learning play in the adventure of life. We look forward to seeing you there!
