04 Jun Library Resources to Help Stop the “Summer Slide”
Summer Reading Program for all ages is in full swing at Eastern Oklahoma Library System branches! This year, kids are encouraged to read for 1000 minutes from June 1 – July 31. That may sound like a lot, but just fifteen to twenty minutes of reading each day will help you reach the goal. For extra encouragement, kids get prizes for every 100 minutes they read.
You can sign up for SRP on the Library website, eols.org, or by downloading our tracking app, Beanstack from your app store. If you prefer a paper tracker, just visit your local branch, and we’ll get you all set up.
Participating in SRP can help stop the “summer slide” and keep your child reading on level, or even increase it. Library staff are here to help you find books at just the right level, and maybe step ahead with a challenge book.
Another way to stay on track with learning is to sign up for a Khan Academy account, with the link provided on the EOLS website, in the Research and Learning section. Preschool through college level tutorials and exercises, taken one step at a time, can help build math, reading, and subject knowledge. Also try Learning Express for math and reading skills practice, or learn a new language, including Cherokee among others, at Mango Languages.
If you need any help at all with the resources the library offers, stop by any branch, or give us a call!
