26 Jan Hot Tea, Popcorn, and a Pot of Gold at Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library

It’s a new year, and the staff at your Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library is excited to share some of what we have planned for the first half of the year.

For the first three months of 2024, we will have special events every Friday. This month we are celebrating National Hot Tea Month by providing some hot drinks to help fight the chill. “Pop in” each Friday in February for popcorn. Come find a treasure under the rainbow in March. We will have a “pot of gold” you can draw from for a treat. Stop in each Friday during these months from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

We are excited to have Selby Minner (Dusk ‘til Dawn Blues Festival cofounder) back to teach guitar lessons. If you have always wanted to learn how to play guitar, bass, or baritone ukulele, then come join us on Wednesday afternoons —beginners at 4 p.m. and intermediate students at 5 p.m. Learn to play an instrument in a relaxed and intuitive way that will have you playing from the first lesson. “Plug in. Tune up. Play!”

At the end of May, your Eastern Oklahoma Library System will once again join libraries around the country as part of the Collaborative Summer Library Program. Our summer reading program is a chance for students to stay engaged with reading during the summer break, but we have fun planned for everyone in the family. We will have live animals, entertainers, and activities for all ages. We are still finalizing plans, but get ready for an action-packed summer. Adventure begins at your library!

Along with all of these things we have planned, we also have monthly craft projects, book club, tabletop role-playing games, and weekly story times.

As you can see, the library is so much more than books. Come by and discover what your local library has to offer. We can’t wait to see you.
