Muldrow Public Library Awarded Health Literacy Grant for StoryWalk® and nutrition classes, demonstrations

Muldrow Public Library was awarded a Health Literacy Grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and Institute of Museum and Library Services to create a “Healthy Muldrow” program that includes a StoryWalk® to be installed at the town park walking trail, healthy cooking classes, “Let’s Get Moving” programs. In addition, the library will offer Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) classes for older adults that help improve flexibility, strength, and balance.

Partners included People Inc., Friends of the Muldrow Public Library, Muldrow Public Schools, Fruit of the Vine (a local food pantry), and the Muldrow Activity Center.

Four branches of the Eastern Oklahoma Library System already have permanent StoryWalk® installations to date: Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library, Eufaula Memorial Library, Muskogee Public Library, and Stilwell Public Library. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Others have special StoryWalk® events and hang their pages along downtown business windows, including Grove Public Library, Delaware County Library, and Tahlequah Public Library. Follow their Facebook pages for Downtown StoryWalk® dates.
