Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library in Sallisaw Receives Health Literacy Grant for Series of Exercise Classes
Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library in Sallisaw was recently awarded a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and Institute of Museum and Library Services to encourage increased physical activity for senior citizens in the community.
Among the plans for movement classes are Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) exercise classes which include low impact movement to help increase stability, balance, and flexibility. In addition, Tai Chi, healthy cooking classes for teens and adults, and Audiobook Walking Trails will also be offered through the grant.
Tai Chi and SAIL have already begun, and cooking classes begin in November. In addition, during Children’s Book Week in November, the library will offer two healthy smoothie classes for children to learn to make their own smoothies.
In February, Helping Prevent Diabetes and Heart Disease with Nutrition Classes will begin. The AudioBook Walking Trail events will begin in the spring.
Follow the library on Facebook or visit eols.org/events for the program calendar.
